No merit whatsoever but a strange one this,  I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Lidded pot which would hold very little as the inner depression is very shallow - could it be for ointment or similar?
Marked to the base BP Ltd 1959-1969 with what looks rather like an MOD arrow mark.
The lid has a circular print on paper of the head and shoulders of a man - with rather a distinctive nose
7.5cm diameter

Have Googled THE BP company to see if the years mentioned relate to anything but  Shrugs

BP Ltd Bp11

Apologies for the orientation, appeared ok when I uploaded !!

British Petroleum doesn't appear to have used Ltd. and of the companies that I can find that did I think the most likely might be British Pens Ltd. It was formed around 1920 when a number of pen manufacturers joined forces and still exists. It is based in Smethwick, West Midlands.

Just a guess based on what I was able to find.

Britannia pottery Glasgow is the closest I could find , Yes that does look like the Government arrow .

Maybe they won a contract to supply Government supplies of some kind?

To me it doesn't look like a mark that a pottery manufacturer would use. However, there is a mark in Godden like this for a company called British Pottery Ltd. They didn't make pottery but were agents for manufacturers from around 1930.

Godden's states, "sometimes occur on wares made by firms for whom the..... company act as agents".

Sometimes a pottery manufacturer would modify it's mark when producing utility wares etc.

But you could be right.

Hi Lindy

The bit I am thrown most about is what I take to be the date 1959-1960? But the design of the pot is for something I have seen a lot attributed to Bear grease. I am sure the pots got used for other things but that is what I remember them for. A quick google will give you a lot of information about Bears grease but in a nut shell it was an ointment to treat hair loss. That picture on the front looks to be advertising for who it can help. If it is a version of Bears grease that 1959-1960 date is very late and the army issue confusing but stranger things have happened particularly in the furthest reaches of the old English empire.

Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions.
The years are the most confusing bits.
The interior is very shallow and smooth sided which indicates it contained something to be removed with the fingers.
I will keep looking and follow up on some of the suggestions
