A bit of an odd one, this. Small pedestal vase (too large to be an egg cup), 8.5cm tall, with crest on front and three beetles on the reverse. All handpainted in gilt. Hand written CA and 1815 in Roman numerals on the base. It doesn't strike me as having any great age to it. The crest / coat of arms looks a little like the Capodimonte mark within a wreath, and it does have a continental feel to it. Any comments whatsoever would be welcome!

Might be for Naples. Various things happened in 1815 so it might be a centenary or bicentenary celebration. Could have been made in 1915 or 2015.

Mmm, I looked at the Neopolitan coat of arms before posting but could find nothing comparable. For me it's the insects that make it a little intriguing - not that I have the slightest entomological interest, just their presence on a pot is a little odd. I've had it a couple of years which would discount the bicentenary but I take your point about it possibly commemorating an event in 1815.

Looks like it has a fair bit of age to it to me anyway.

Thanks, everyone, for your contributions. A Google image search of 'Napoleon porcelain bees' reveals quite a few similar pieces with many seeming to have been produced in Limoges. Apologies if this query inadvertently fell outside the 20th century boundaries!

Despite the title, we get a lot of 21st and 19th century items on here Excellent
