1960s Lamp Base identification please?

Post by paddymelon on October 11th 2015, 2:41 pm

Hi,
I have a lovely lamp base with runes and mottled glaze. Initials to base appear to say JT 66. Does anyone know who made it? What kind/style of shade would it have had originally?
Cheers,

Welcome to the Forum. It looks like the work of a hobby potter but it would be good to see the base.

Looks to be decorated by a follower of Bernard Rooke and Alan Wallwork, but the style of marking points to it being a student piece, although there's an outside chance it's American or Australian.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm from Australia but I'm not sure this came over with the rest of my stuff. I'll attempt another attachment.
Kind regards,

The mark really confirms it being by a hobby potter to me.

A lot of US and Australian potters, untrained in the Leach way of marking pots, have this style of mark. I like the shape and decoration, but it does look a bit student-y.

Cheers everyone, I guess I'll never know. Looking at the signature again, it does lack some confidence and it has a teenage vibe! The surface, though is quite good. My amateur attempts never turned out that well. They even provided an option for the wiring, side or back! I really like it and it looks great on an oak table. I just need to find the right shade.
