Big studio vase, beautiful glaze, probably German 1970s? Empty Big studio vase, beautiful glaze, probably German 1970s?

Impressive studio vase, 21 cm high, appr. 18 cm diameter.
Brown clay, rather delicate, beautiful glaze (the dark areas are highly iridescent).
Indistinctive engraved mark to the base, maybe "P." or a monogram plus a dot.

A little bit in the style of Uhlemeyer or Zenker, which made me think possibly German...
I found a smaller yet very similar vase on ebay.de, same shape and base finish.

Thanks for any help!
Michael

It doesn't look factory made so maybe not German. Possibly French?

I thought my sweeping generalisation about German pottery would be picked up by someone. Sorry.

You only have yourselves to blame; producing all that WGP ;)

Thanks a lot for your thoughts! :)

I am aware that there is also the possibility that it could have been made much nearer than I think, but I do not find much info on Austrian studio potters.
It doesn't look Hungarian or Italian to me (which I come across frequently here), so I would still think of an artist in Germany, Netherlands etc.

I had hoped that the iridescent glaze would probably ring some bells...
(BTW, it seems to be the same dark brown iridescent glaze as on >> this Carstens Austria vase)

Is the red clay right for Germany?
I'm wondering if it's Australian

Thanks a lot, Naomi!
Searching for German studio pottery showed that most use a white clay, but not all. I have a Uhlemeyer vase for instance which has a brown clay.

Being at the other end of the world I would think rather not Australia. And it looks more like a complex drip glaze than a tribal pattern to me (but as I am pretty clueless about the vase I will do some research regarding your suggestions)

I was thinking more of Australian studio pottery, rather than aboriginal stuff. Some of them like their lustre and drip glazes.

I have two Carstens pieces. Both are red clay.

A bit subdued for Greg Daly (australia), but his vases are a similar shape.

Thanks again, Naomi! Very much appreciated :-)
Definately in a similar vein; I have checked how the bases of his pieces are finished, they seem rather different (clay, signature).

Have you looked at the one on German ebay I referred to in my opening post? It is the only piece I found which could well be by the same maker...

Oops, sorry I missed that. Yes, they do look very similar. Highly probable it is by the same potter.

This very nice vase was most probably made by Rudolf Pasch from Austria.
Here's a base pic of a small vase i have from them, showing the "P." and a sticker/label:

Thank you so much - great info!
I was always sure that this nice vase wasn't a student or amateur piece...
