I think it's upside down. Looks like Gosforth Pottery.

Hi Naomi, thanks for your suggestion. It does resemble Gosforth Pottery ( Richard & Barbara Wright ) sprigged mark in Yates-Owen and Fournier if you look at the mark in a mirror. Perhaps the mark in the book has been mis-printed in reverse. I usually look and read a mark in the manner that is the easiest to be applied, eg. nearest the edge.
Having said all this I think you are correct.

I have another one with the mark the 'wrong way round' and suspect the book is wrong

Mug with monogram - Richard & Barbara Wright

Post by Greenie1689 on September 23rd 2015, 12:53 pm

A charity shop find for 20p - can anyone help identify the stamp?

Mug stands about 4" tall. The handle has a definite lean to the right. A mistake or designed to fit a left-hander?

Thanks, zippy!

Makes sense as I'm only a "stone's throw" from Brampton although it does emphasise my comment on the "Building a Library" thread I started: Yates-Owen's "British Studio Potter's Marks" is "useful for confirming what you already know rather than discovering what you don't".
