Unmarked tumbler or brush pot

Post by NaomiM on Sat Jun 20, 2015 2:08 am

Previously used as a pen pot. Wondering if it's post or pre-war., or even if it's British. Reminds me of some pieces I have from Canada and the U.S., but also similar to Verwood?

I've been through the book I have on Verwood and there is nothing that shape or with that decoration.

It does look to me like a pre-1940 country pottery item though.

Thanks. It will probably remain a mystery. :)

Then let's agree with Yanagi Sōetsu and call it mingei i.e., “hand-crafted art of ordinary people”.
