Artisanal style goblet approx 5" tall in white glazed red earthenware, inscribed decoration, stick man like seal mark with what looks like three partially obscured words/names adjacent.

Looks like a Chinese or Japanese type seal unless you can see letters from the Roman alphabet.

Agreed, I was thinking that was part of it's charm and maybe possibly age...

With regards to Roman or Logographic characters the brains programmed to see familiar patterns so think that's probably misleading me into seeing letters that aren't there!

It isn't a typical shape for a Japanese drinking vessel but I'm inclined to think that it is where it came from. I don't think it's earthenware, as it looks like stoneware to me and it has been made quickly without refinement to give it individuality and charm.
