Horsey thing...

Post by alloydog on May 2nd 2015, 8:05 am

Other than a "horsey thing"...

It's seems to be hollow, cast brass, painted very dark green

I bought it in a second-hand shop in Ipswich about 20 years back. It looked interesting and only cost a couple quid. No one I know has a clue as to what it is or where it came from. On the scale of Cheapo-souvinier-from-Honk-Kong to Priceless-looted-ancient-artifact, I know it's down there with the holiday bric-a-brac.  But, on and off the past 15 years or so, I get the urge to try and find where it might have come from.

There are no makers markings on it.  There is a trace if the mold-seam down the front of the nose and under the chin, but the rest of the body is clear.

Any ideas?

Looks like a painted on green that is mimicking the patina on more ancient pieces. To me it looks like a tourist piece from the Middle East or Greece which is copying a Classical Greek or Persian artefact.
