I don’t know how typical this is of his signature but it’s nice having a date on too.

I had it for it for a bit, it is badly damaged and fantastically heavy but interesting looking (I think).

Thank you so much to both of you, I needed some reassurance I was not missing something very obvious, will have a go at googling but suspect it is not anyone [well] known, it is very crudely made but has a lot of character.

I wonder if it’s by William Ruscoe. Not many of his pieces around for comparison

That seems like a decent shout, Naomi, but I can't really add much, except to say that the foot looks to have a similar finish to what I have seen on some pieces of Bullers, where he worked for a while.

and his long neck vases have a feature of starting elegantly and then going thick into the body:

Another curious fact is the one I have comes from Devon, near Exeter, where he lived....

He did date some pieces. There’s one I have on the forum dated 1953. Different base tho. Could well be Ruscoe signature.

Signed & dated - incised - William Ruscoe 1966
9” tall, a bit heavy, but I love the decoration. It’s got a real 1960s look.
I’m unsure if it’s stoneware or porcelain.
