I thought a site to centralise all the various links with images and information about Studio Pottery. There is quite a lot out there, and some of it can be quite obscure. None of this stuff is mine by the way!
Private collections.
Psychoceramicus on Flickr. Quality images with a lot of very high quality pottery.

Same gent.A pictorial visit to York City Art gallery, which undoubtedly has the best Studio Pottery collection in the country. The whole of the 3000+ Bill Ismay collection to start with. You need to click the older/newer buttons to see all the pottery images.Which again, are superb. It opens on a Lucie Rie piece.

The collection of a discerning academic. Aagin its a PDF which you will have to wait to load, and the wait depends on your download speed. Very high quality collection on an anonymous academic held by the Monnow Valley Arts in Wales a couple years ago.

MUseums. Now there are several Museums that have their Studio Pottery collections-or some of it- online. Those that do,are well worth a glance.
First the V&A. If you visit London.you have got to visit the V&A collection. The vast majority is displayed in galleries that were refurbished a year or two ago.Hidden away on the very top floor, lit by natural light,it is often very quiet. But an absolute delight.
This search is set to Bernard Leach. But you can type any name in.

Buckinghamshire County Museum Aylesbury.
320 pieces with images online.Strong on 60's/70's studio pottery. In particular they have an excellent number of Ruth Duckworth. Link to search.Either type the individual name or if you want to see the whole lot, type Ceramics.
Unfortuantely its fairly hit and miss what is actually on show.Most-as with most museums-is in storage.

I recognise the name getcarter3 as a seller on ebay a couple of years back. The seller always had really great quality pottery for sale. Still appears on ebay from time to time I believe.

Thanks for the links by the way. Some great images/pots among them

I see the collection at York Art Gallery mentioned above. The gallery is currently closed for refurbishment but I've heard that there will be an exhibition of Bill Ismay's pots at the Hepworth, Wakefield this autumn. I can't wait! In the meantime some of you might be interested in the catalogue York published with their first ceramic show upstairs in their new ceramics space. Available from self-publishing website lulu.com.

I found out more information about the W A Ismay exhibition. I'd forgotten he lived in Wakefield, the Hepworth will be a great venue for his work.

Bill Ismay was an interesting character, whose two up and two down terraced house in Wakefield was full of pots.

Towards the end of his life when he was 89/90 he would often travel down by train to the Private Views of my exhibitions in Greenwich with his friend. Always first in the queue and camera in hand - not only did he like to have first choice but he also liked to photograph the pot(s) he bought as they were positioned in the exhibitions.

I remember that he was disappointed not to be able to get down to a Mike Dodd exhibition that I staged 2 or 3 months before he died so I had to take photographs and he chose from those. I think that his inability to walk at the end brought on his death. If he couldn't get out to buy pots then there was no point in sticking around.

I visited the latest exhibition at Portsmouth City Museum today : called, 'A Hard Choice', it's a display of art and objects from the city's collections that the longstanding museum curator thinks is a favourite or has been tucked away for many years.  It's a good broad spectrum of things and an insight in to the work of a curator.  It did, however, leave me a little sad that Portsmouth, like many other towns and cities has hundreds of things stashed away in archives and never put on show to the public.

One wonderful thing about the museum is a series of room sets dressed in period decor.  They have a 1950s/60s room which has a carpet exactly the same as my grandparents had.
