Hi

My sister picked this up at a car boot in about 1997 as a gift for me. Despite an Alsterfors or Holmegaard look I have never been convinced by it. The piece is approx 35.5 cm high and 12 cm across with a rounded rim. Some thinning of the green to lighter shades as it goes up. Clear cased inside and out which makes the green inside almost appear thinly white cased. The base is what concerns me really as it has been roughly ground down on higher sections to make it flat to stand on. Without this and with the lack of a pontil the base is much akin to Alsterfors hooped vases by Per Strom. Despite never having seen the piece anywhere else I would 1997 would still be late enough for the emergence of high street sell through of retrospective 1960's modern imports so as I say, I was never truly convinced by the piece.

Hi that's fine as others opinions are what I am looking for. More likely to be Eastern Europe import for the date it was acquired though.

I'm not sure why you rule China out on the basis of date. China has been making and exporting glass for a long while. The grinding on the base doesn't indicate a "good" manufacturer though

The explosion of retrospective glass in the late 1990's was from European glass on the high street whilst smaller companies seemed to import from China to my memory, pretty much the opposite of the last few years.
