Alex McErlain Empty Alex McErlain - Cup and Saucer

Post by Beege August 21st 2020, 1:19 pm

Hallo all, I hope you are all well.
Based upon the mark, I am reasonably certain this cup/saucer are by Alex McErlain, however, I'm curious about the four 'chip' marks around the edge of the saucer. Initially I assumed this was owing to the saucer being 'clamped' in one of those dreaded plater holders to hang from a wall, but then this seemed a strange thing to do to the saucer of an accompanying cup.
Does anyone have any ideas on what these 'chips' represent...are they part of the firing process?
Thank you for any help.
Jack.
