8" Figural planter/vase with marks

Post by Guest on October 21st 2014, 2:58 pm

The nice man in the shop was practically giving it away so I couldn't refuse Embarrassed

Does anyone recognise the base marks, It looks maybe Austrian dress style and has a crossed 7 at the base? and a DB ?

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Thanks Ed, for your suggestion : ) I'll look.

Not sure how old it is? but it has crazing. The boy is completely enclosed but hollow I think with just a pin hole in the trousers.

no, I much appreciate it. I thought there would be a few around to easily ID it, and surprised that there isn't.

I've done a rubbing and think the marks been accidently double impressed still not sure if its a D

also pic of feet/bum hole Shock

Could be Serves. Also worth looking at the German factories as they use a four figure number on their porcelain figurines, and a handwritten one points to a 19thCentury piece.

I've found Theodore and Nicholas Buteux as porcelain painters. nothing else. Maybe its one of their descendent's who made it.

Bateau is boat, Naomi.

Buteux were a family of painters at Sevres and "son" would mean junior, I think. No indication that they were anything other than painters.
