The Pensylvanian Dutch do something similar so I'd say Northern Europe. You could try the Ancient-Arts group on Facebook as there are a couple of members who collect early slipware.

A bit i suppose , but I had an item taken off last month because I had in the style of , which it was , they took it off with 10 minutes to go after it had been on 10 days , the tosser that reported it remains anon , i relisted after ebay pathetic warning that no item can have in the style of or similar to in the ad ( take a look through ebay to see millions of them ) , PS I got more money on the relist as I started at the price that was before , I bet if the person wants an item they wouldn't get bothered about titles .

Agreed. It's daft. Painting can legitimately use 'school of' or 'follower of', so why can't you use 'style of?'


Have you noticed the expressions of utter grief expressed by the studio collectors  when they're told its a 'production piece', like that's supposed to be the worst insult you could use on a piece of pottery.? Wtf? Moorcroft is 'production' ware. What universe are they living in? Do they just throw it in the bin if it's not handthrown?

Back to the jug, if you google Breininger sgraffito or slipware or redware you'll see the modern Pensylvanian Dutch versions, but I think this could be Colibaba Romania Folk Pottery, or near that part of Northern Europe.

Just looked through magnifying glass Paul and asked someone else 100% 1800's 1859 I think , do you think it's french , did they write in old script as they did here ?
