Any information on this please.

Post by pot-bellied amateur on September 17th 2014, 4:48 pm

A very nice looking piece spotted on a friend's shelf. I said I'd try to find out about it. (Mind you, if I achieve nothing else, at least I've got her to remove the six inches of dust gathered on it....). She has this smaller lidded one & a larger one without lid. I can't find anything on line.

Am I right in saying that as it doesn't have "Ltd" in the title it's likely to be pre-1910?

I think this is Burslem  1880-present day as in the Godden handbook of British pottery

It looks c1920s to me but I've not been able to find the Blue Bird pattern.

backstamp dates it to around 1920's. "Ltd" on items was introduced from 1910

 but not always used.

i.e. Ltd means that it was from 1910 onwards but if Ltd isn't present it doesn't mean that it is before that date, as many backstamps post 1910 didn't have Ltd included.

I can't find Blue Bird pattern either. I thought it looked 1920s but then I found the reference to them becoming a Ltd company in 1910. But if Ltd wasn't always used after 1910, then 1920s becomes a possibility again.

................. but if you look at all the marks in Goddens from 1917 onwards you will see that none have Ltd. included.
