Tiny but perfectly formed

Yes, these two little jugs are fitting on a 50p piece!

When I first saw them ( with a two handled loving cup minus a handle) I thought they had to be plastic but they are ceramic. How on earth were they produced  - you can even see where the handle has been applied !! Slip cast ? No obvious seams or joins. Obviously not thrown !!!

I've just found a photo in a Denby book showing wares produced in both C19th century and early C20th and there are a couple of similar pots described as ' miniature traveller's samples'.

     

I know that more often than not ' big is best' where pottery esp studio pottery is concerned but these (IMO) are sooooo skilful and charming.

They may not be Denby from the pics, the colours were lighter, but that may be
just the pics. Doulton did them as well, these look more like Doulton, as the Denby
ones had more defined bands of brown. Too small to mark, the little Denby bottles
were turned on a matchstick!

They are really cute. They look like copies of Royal Doulton, or at least traditional, salt glazed jugs. I suspect they were made for dolls houses.

The main colour is in fact lighter than the images would suggest. I love them . I'm surprised there's so little reference to them on the web
