I've not seen anything like it from Japan.

Came across a mug with a similar strap handle, made by Mona Pottery, Anglesey. They feel like 70s vintage, British. (From the Dark Ages of studio pottery)

Another possibility - which admittedly is a long shot - is they've come from abroad, eg,

Interesting looking bottles Naomi , especially with the ceramic stoppers , the stoppers on mine are just a piece of clay rolled into a carrot shape , folded and string wound in a fancy way around to make a tight fit , The reason I suggested Africa was only that the seller came from there but she didn't know where they came from ( didn't really speak that much english tbh) all i know is one is wood fired and glaze probably tenmoku in parts ., the Isezaki stuff reminded me a little as well especially the scratches on the base & incised lines on the body . I think I probably need to look for another tree to bark up  Laughter

I've come across one or two large British vases with that sort of incised line decoration. c.60s-70s. I don't think they were marked either, otherwise I'd at least have photographed them.

I think it may be Thomas Plowman. Google:-

I've sent you a link to the photo gallery.

I would be surprised if they were Japanese. The stoneware body looks British.
