Silchester ware?

Post by NaomiM on June 25th 2014, 2:26 pm

Initially I thought Silchester ware, but comparing it to a stamped piece it's better quality, has an onion-peel surface, a distinct reddish-tinge to the glaze, and the clay is a dark brown rather than Silchester ware's terracotta. It doesn't have the oily sheen seen on Dunster's black ware (If I'm remembering correctly), and not as black and the clay seems wrong for Brickhurst (you can see the colour difference in the last photo, albeit taken with a flash). I'm still thinking English, though.

Just my personal opinion, take it or leave it.
