In other words I haven't the first idea about this jug !! But I'm sure there's someone on here who could give me an idea.

I rather like it and assume it's Japanese as it's decorated with cranes , although could be wrong about that too.
It obviously has a bit of age as the gilding on the top of the handle is very worn. Also no idea if mark is Japanese or Chinese.  10cms high

Nice. I'd say Japanese too, because of the cranes. I can't find the mark, but I can ask someone on FB if you don't mind me copying & posting the photos.

It was obviously made for the Western market and it looks 1920s/1930s to me but it really isn't my field.

Well so far it's got a lot of likes, but no positive ID. Someone suggested the marks are Chinese so I've posted it there too. Just have to wait and see.

Yes , one of the reasons I included Chinese in the topic heading was that although I initially thought of Japan and the importance of Red cranes to them, there is also lot of reference on line to their importance to the Chinese ( and other areas of the world too !!)

Just had a reply:

廣生隆 造 means made by Guangshenglong ( company's name ), in 小江窯 Xiao jiang kiln, 浦北 縣 Pu bei county, Guangxi province, China.
ca.1930's?

So it's Chinese.

That's great , thanks  Excellent . I'm glad it confirmed my original idea that it might be Chinese. Now I've got to decide whether I like it enough to keep or sell it on as I have no idea whether it's worthwhile

Well a number of people liked it in the group so I think it'll sell, but whether it'll sell well is another matter entirely. They might just want it for a fiver.  Happy

I don't think that there is any real market for this type of thing so it will sell on its looks.
