Kyoto is a city on the island of Honshu in Japan. Looks mid century. Looks a bit worse for wear.

The holes were for a handle that is missing.

I think that it is 1950s hence the mark in English like that - just post War.

Probably metal covered in fibre, bamboo or possibly even plastic.
