The technique to make these is a common night class lesson for beginners. Roll leaves into a slab. They burn away in the kiln leaving the image of the leaf in the clay. However, this is somebody competent enough to finish the base reasonably well (also a student lesson - roll fabric into the clay to leave a pattern). Also having had a proper backstamp made suggests it's not a beginner's piece. Maybe an experienced student?

The mark seems to havebeen photographed at an angle. If you could post another one face on then I can look it up in Yates-Owen.
