The orange unglazed areas are reminiscent of John Leach's Muchelney Pottery, but it would most likely be marked, and I doubt he's have teabowls in place of teacups, so it looks like a recent Far Eastern import. Maybe Korean from the crackle glaze.

The brush stroke of white glaze inside the teabowl is also typical of Japanese pottery.

Thanks for your thoughts Naomi, I knew that without a mark it would be really difficult to ID : (

I agree with Naomi but if I had to choose would say Japanese.

Factory made for export so identifying where they were made is going to be impossible.

It is a sensible way forward but there are potters who didn't mark their work such as Shoji Hamada, Svend Bayer and one of my favorites, Patrick Sargent.

The only way to learn though is to get out there, see and touch as much as you can and buy things that you shouldn't have done. There really isn't any other way.

One other thing that I've learnt over the years is that just because a pot's marked and the potter is known and collectable doesn't always mean you should buy. They all had their off days.
