Shelf Pottery
Does anyone have any information regarding Shelf pottery?
I have one piece and I quite like the style. But I know little about it apart from Shelf is near Halifax (I should know that being a Yorkshire lad!).
Kind regards Taylor

Re: Shelf Pottery
Shelf Pottery the poor mans Troika
Shelf Pottery started as Hippopotamus Pottery and was made in Hipperholme (a few miles from Shelf)
It was started by a Art teacher as a hobby and a way to amuse his kids in the holidays.
People started to want to buy the items , so it branched out into pottery parties, where you go and have two many glasses of cheap wine and wake up the next morning with a bad head and two ugly vases!
It went on to sell to retail shops later on and had to move from their house to a bigger premises, as the husband, wife, kids and mother in law where working flat to keep up with the demand.
The reason I know this is because I was selling some Shelf Pottery a fair a while ago and a lady told me she used to make them.
"Did you used to work there" I asked "No my ex husband started it off" came the reply.
Some great designed early pieces that have not come into there own right yet, just need a style mag to have a few in a photo shoot and Bobs your uncle, still a affordable collector for the future in my opinion.
