Falcon Ware. Thomas Lawrence (Longton) Ltd.

I recently bought a collection of Sylvac pieces and among them was this pair of vases. they appear to be marked with "Jolian Ware" but possibly Tolian. Mark is quite indistinct. Would any body recognise this mark and was this part of Sylvac as it is very similar to the other pieces I bought. Thanks for any help John

Falcon Ware

It was in a sense a sister company of SylvaC for a while, being produced in the same factory and the same items, just different back stamps, from what I understand, until they stopped using the name Falcon Ware.

No problem, signatures always look obvious when someone else tells you what they say, or I find they do anyway

Jug with two handpainted ships,  marked 1409, Made In England. Falcon Ware. And two handwritten marks which I can't read. Is Falcon Ware the company or pattern name? As I'm not finding similar jugs when I google it.

The pattern is "Argosy"

Either shared or took over the Sylvan works
Shaw & Copestake (Sylvac) in 1957.

The other black script stamp is the pattern name - I think it is Argosy.

So what would the brown script/signature be? Is it just a repeat of 'Falconware'?Or the designer's name?

Can't really make it out. Must start with "F" but in a different script. Could be a
wholesaler/retailer name. Flosmaron is the only one I can think of.

Hadn't noticed that you had already written this DD while I was sound asleep............ and probably still was when I repeated it.

So are all the other Falconware pieces that pop up when I google the name, later Sylvac or a different company?

I Think it may be an urban myth that they were connected.
Falcon bought the works that sylvac were using in 1957, Sylvac then
moved to another site at the same time.

I have edited the title Naomi, as it has nothing to do with Sylvac.

As an aside, J. H. Weatherley & Sons of the Falcon Pottery in Hanley used the trade name Falcon Ware from around 1925 until 1936. Quite interesting, as Thomas Lawrence began using it in 1936 but I don't know the history.

Your jug has a mark used by Thomas Lawrence Ltd. in the 1950s/60s.

Yes, it does seem to be 50s-60s mark. I heard that a number of companies continued to use 30s designs into the 50s because of the war and lack of finance to revamp their factories, so this may explain the 30s look to the jug.

I recently bought this rather fabulous clock but can't find another like it or any useful information. The base is marked Falcon Ware,  and what I think is Kadis.
Anyone know anything about it or seen an other similar clocks?

We will need a base pic as there are 2 falcon wares.

Strange that your link attributes that particular Falcon Ware mark to the 1950s-60s though, as I'd say Ithe clock has a definite 30s shape and style - and I showed it to an auction house who said probably 1930s too - although they'd never seen one before so were just educated guessing. And if it was 1950s-60s I would expect more of them to have been put on the internet somewhere.

Due to WW2 there was little change in designs between 30s-50s. A lot of companies didn’t retool until the late 50s-60s, and rationing didn’t end until the mid-50s
