Surrey Ceramics was formed in 1956 at premises at Sandhills, Surrey and then moved in 1967 to nearby Grayshott.

Aren't these two little Surrey Ceramics piggybanks dead cute? Bought on separate occasions. I wonder how many other different glaze finishes/colours they came in?

I really like Surrey Ceramics but, of all the pieces I've owned, this is by far my favourite, I think it's lovely! A really nicely made leaf dish - large at 11in/28cm in length - dating I think from the early 1960s and stamped to the underside 'Surrey Ceramics England'.

Hi- I'd love it if anyone has any ideas on this one.
Some months ago I bought a vinagerette/oil bottle which has a glazed pattern of yellow and black stripes. It has a wooden, domed top. The bottle stands 6 inches or 8 inches with the top on. The top has an inside cork (badly damaged unfortunately) so it does seem to be for oil or a vinagerette.

It has an embossed stamp on the bottom which has faded and is largely indecipherable. I did try a pencil rubbing of it but the results weren't any more illuminating. Perhaps one of you recognises something like it? It's a red or dark brown rectangle with three lines of text. Possibly the first two letters are an S and a U, but I couldn't be certain of this.

I've found lots of things with a very similar pattern ( Jean Lespinasse, Saint Clement, a Czech company I forget) but all have different marks. It reminds me of piazza ware and of some of the slipware Rye stuff. It's definitely got age to it and the styling and design scream fifties. Extensive searches have found nothing though..so please help!! Cheers.

The "O" would be for oil, so one of a pair.

The only mark I can think of that shape (and maybe just read) is
Surrey ceramics England.

Though it looks 1950s Italian in style.

Many thanks to both of you.
I've found a pair on the net with a black décor and the same shape and top. I'd never have found this ordinarily as I've not come across them before. Whilst I was hoping for something more exotic (!), at least now I can stop my obsessive googling for various combinations of striped ceramics -cheers. Happy

Hi all, got as far as working out this was Surrey Ceramics from the mark, but can anyone tell me any more? Looks pretty fifties to me, but great condition, just need to clean off the sticker.

Thanks

Thanks Dan. And for the pics.
I was thinking it looked very similar to Cinque Ports styling. But obviously wasn't CP.

An interesting pottery history. They later morphed into Grayshott pottery, which also bought Dart pottery in 2006. Various sorts of connections with other older potteries in the area,

"Under our Surrey Ceramics brand, we make bespoke ceramics for celebrity chefs..."

I wonder which celebrity chef was the previous owner of my pot :D
