Parrot with hole in its head

Does anyone know what this is Made by Crown Staffordshire, looks 1930-50. Hollow with a Chinese style openwork base and beak but also has a hole in the top of it's head. I've drawn a blank so far  Um...

With a hole in the top of its head I'd expect it to be a lamp base.
