Can anyone make suggestions for this one? Very standard shape vase with red mark 83 or 38 or similar to base. The abstract decoration seems to be hand painted very skilfully and intricately and it nearly repeats itself but with colour inversions. When I washed it in warm water there was a little leaching out of the red colour onto my cloth. Height is 150mm.

The colour coming off suggests that someone has bought a plain vase and decorated it for their own amusement.

When I see red ink marks on the base I think Chinese. Late 20th century.

If it has a sandy texture it might be Mexican or Native American sand art.

Hi Naomi yes the colour has a sandy texture. Will follow up on that. I agree the base marks look modern Chinese. Thanks
