Any idea who has this maker's mark...a squiggly tadpole?

Post by lizjohn104 on February 5th 2013, 9:14 pm

Hi

I have a lovely bowl with a maker's mark which resembles a tadpole with a curled tail! Any ideas?
Sorry, I keep trying to upload the picture of the front but no joy...I'll keep trying

It does look like Philip and Frannie Leach's Springfield Pottery mark but, as far as I am aware, they have only used red earthenware. Could email them to check though.

Philip Leach is a nice bloke and his email address is

pwleach@springfield-pottery.com

Because I think he has only used red terracotta clay to pot with it is a long shot but worth a try.

Potters generally don't mind as long as you don't bother them too often.

No it's not his mark. There's an example on ebay SPRINGFIELD POTTERY - PHILIP LEACH - HUGE VASE 16.25" - SEE PICS / DESCRIPTION and it's more of an S shape with a spiral on the bottom half of the S, and it's on terracotta.

I'm sure it's not Springfield Pottery, there was one like this in the mystery pots section of ceramike website, Philip Leach I believe commented that he never worked in stoneware and it was not one of his.
