kernewek Pottery Cornwall

Post by Flintztone on January 14th 2013, 8:29 pm

Can anyone help me please identify this mark.  The pattern design at first glance I assumed was  Kernewek Pottery, also some I have seen are signed by Mannon.  There are no other markings for me to go on so far.   I am now thinking that this marking maybe Japanese and that is soley based on the style of marking.

The glaze looks like Kernewek to me too - it would be useful to have a photo of the whole item.
I suspect the mark is Celtic rather than Japanese.

...Is it on the side or the base? If it's the side it could simply be decoration rather than a maker's mark.

Agreed, also as Naomi said, we need a picture of the item itself and the base, as per ID thread rules. Happy

Thanx NaomiM, The marking is in the centre of the shallow bowl. The bowl is irregular in shape. I've looked at some of the Celtic porcelain and were the design looks simiar to some I've seen, I am not totally convinced at the moment, due to the pattern design. It is still early in my search, so will not rule out it being Celtic.

Check out "Blue Kernewek Cornwall Coffee Set" on ebay and you'll see how similar the pottery is to this bowl.
Just to add, I've never known a potter to put their potter's mark in the middle of one of their pieces. The plaque is decoration, not a maker's mark.

Thanx NaoiM, decorative design seems more likely. It was not being able to find a design like this that made me think it could be a marking. appreciated!
