Unusual Whitefriars organic vase

Post by Retro Mojo on October 23rd 2012, 7:11 pm

1st post!

Now that's out of the way can any Whitefriars experts enlighten me?

I've picked up a gorgeous ruby red vase that bears all the hallmarks of Whitefriars. It has a perfectly polished pointil, not a moulded look a like, It's 11 inches tall, it has a fire polished rim and it's cased in clear glass. I have a few other items from WF and the feel is just right if that makes sense?

I've been collecting glass for a number of years and can tell quality from tat,

Thanks all :-)

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, the 'hallmarks' of Whitefriars are also the hallmarks of a hundred other glassworks. Not only are they not exclusive to Whitefriars, they're not even consistent with all Whitefriars (i.e. there are many Whitefriars ranges with cut rims and no polished pontil marks).

Whitefriars is one of the best-recorded glassworks about, and so if it doesn't pop up in one of the catalogues or price-lists - which I believe this one doesn't - then Occam's Razor says that it's probably by someone else entirely.

And that's where the fun begins... Laughter

Nice vase, but not a shape I remember from the Whitefriars catalogues.
May be Scandinavian.

Just my personal opinion, take it or leave it.
