Eugéne Michel
Incredibly beautiful miniature vase that pushes the lower boundaries of this forum's timescale remit...
Created c.1900 by French engraver and designer for Rousseau and Leveillé, Eugéne Michel, an artist most celebrated for his cameo glass works. The incredibly intricate motif shows a gardening cherub, and was one of a series with cherubs undertaking different gardening tasks.
The vase is just a little over 10.5cm tall, and the motif is just under 5cm tall - with some of the engraving strokes measuring at less than 1mm!
